Lucky vs. blessed

Posted on: Tuesday, June 28, 2011

How is being blessed different than being lucky? What’s the difference? Is there a difference? Is being blessed an adjective or a lifestyle/state of mind?

Luck: fortune, an unknown and unpredictable phenomenon that causes an event to result one way rather than another, your overall circumstances or condition in life (including everything that happens to you),

Blessing: the formal act of approving, grace, undeserved gift

>> Luck has three aspects: it is good or bad, luck is by accident or chance, luck applies to a person. But blessing, on the other hand, has an added dimension. Being blessed shows the extraordinary feelings of being given gifts for no other reason than the giver is good, is kind, and loves you unconditionally. Blessings are inclusive. Blessings are something that are hard to articulate, hard to explain and often seem undeserved.

Luck is something that happens by chance, random.  Blessings are something we are prepared for, a positive result. Something we hope for, but do not necessarily deserve. Blessings are rooted in love and grace.

Something I am going to try to consciously remember is that blessings don’t need to be defined by trivial things – like wealth or presents. Instead, blessings are associated with love, joy, peace, family, everyday opportunities, grace.

May today be a day full of blessings! xo
